Business Process Management

BPMBPM, at a high level, is a field of management focused on aligning organizations with the wants and needs of clients, vendors, and internal lines of business. It is an approach that promotes effectiveness and efficiency, while enabling flexibility, and integration with technology. Process improvement is continuously evaluated, and improved ideally.

BPM is similar to other processes or systems like Total Quality Management, or Continuous Improvement Process, but diverges in that it states that this approach can be supported, and enabled by technology. This allows for management oversite, dynamic process improvement, and monitoring. As such, this indicates that BPM has two sides, or perspectives. The people, and the technology.

BPM in it’s best practice, current incarnation, goes far beyond the mechanical process modeling of the 1990s and early part of this century. It integrates systems, applications, and human driven processes into one, cohesive whole.
